Who is Dr. Chuck Pruitt?

Dr. Chuck Pruitt is running for Utah State Senate in District 14. Chuck is a pediatrician who practices emergency medicine at Primary Children’s Hospital. He is also the former President of the Utah chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Chuck serves as Advocacy Director of Primary Children’s Hospital. He’s a former Precinct Vice Chair and long-time Democratic delegate, and an extremely proud father and husband. Chuck has experience in victim advocacy and has served his whole life as a representative of those in Utah who struggle to be heard.
Chuck Pruitt has experience running and winning campaigns. The SD 14 Senate seat is his next step towards his goal; to protect all of those who feel they do not have a voice on the Hill.

Health Care & Medicine
Dr. Chuck Pruitt will bring a crucial perspective to Capitol Hill as a Democratic physician in the Senate. We cannot let politicians with NO MEDICAL BACKGROUND or knowledge control our health. In the Senate, Chuck will :
Streamline Medicaid and Medicare to make coverage available to more Utahns
Protect women and LGBTQ individuals from hurtful and unnecessary legislation affecting their health
Increase access to mental health care and crisis services, and support suicide prevention programs
Support policies which can reduce drug related deaths as well as other harms of the opioid crisis.
Protecting Democracy
Dr. Chuck Pruitt knows we live in a scary time where leaders of the state and nation threaten the election process and the very essence of democracy! Together, we can change this course of action and save our democratic institutions. As your senator, Chuck Pruitt will fight to:
Maintain early voting, same day registration, mail-in ballots
Create an unbiased redistricting process that is OPEN to the public
Protest unconstitutional voting restrictions and redistricting
Education
As a former school board member and child advocate, Dr. Chuck Pruitt knows how important education is for our kids. Good education affects the salary, health, and overall well being of the coming generation. Unfortunately, some state leaders don’t recognize the value of education and, because of this, Utah ranks in the bottom for many education indicators. As senator, Dr. Chuck Pruitt promises to fight for:
Ongoing training for teachers and staff on sensitive issues including cultural awareness to making sure that everyone, including minority students, feels safe and included in the classroom
STEM and humanities programs that will keep our students competitive and refine their natural, God given talents.
Increased funding for school materials and competitive salaries so that our students can reach their full potential
Environment & Pollution
Many state leaders protect non-renewable energy companies under the guise of ‘protecting the economy’. We know that there are ways to create jobs and support growth without polluting our air and destroying fragile ecosystems. As a doctor, I know first hand what a traumatic effect pollution has on our community, particularly vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. As senator, I will::
Create incentives for businesses to adopt environmentally friendly practices so that we can protect our beautiful state without sacrificing economic growth.
Many aren’t aware that electricity is often generated using coal here in Utah. As senator I will write legislation incentivizing Utah to transition to more renewable sources of energy, like hydro.
Fund public awareness campaigns that teach Utahns how to save water, transitions to renewable energy, and protect our environment and our air.
Science & Disinformation
The pandemic revealed just how dangerous misinformation and bad science can be. As a senator I will attack disinformation and the attempts by bad actors to create public unrest. As a medical professional and a Democrat, I vow to :
Craft policies to fight the spread of disinformation
Follow quality scientific data when creating and voting on legislation, not conspiracy theories
Ensure the health and safety of our loved ones
